MY Story

I've always believed that clothing has the power to tell a story.

Long before I knew how to sew, I was captivated by beautiful fabrics, antique treasures and the magic of dressing up. As a little girl, I transformed bed sheets into flowing gowns and spent countless hours imagining the lives of the women who might have worn the vintage lace and heirloom garments that surrounded me. That fascination with beauty, history and craftsmanship has stayed with me ever since.

Clothing has never about trends. It has always been about emotion, creativity, play and the confidence that comes from wearing something made especially for you.

After moving to Melbourne to study Fashion Design at RMIT University, I immersed myself in the art of pattern making, couture construction and textile design. In 1997, I founded Gwendolynne with a vision of creating timeless garments that celebrated individuality rather than following seasonal fashion.

Nearly three decades later, that vision remains unchanged.

Every gown is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted in my Fitzroy atelier, where I continue to work closely with each bride throughout her journey. From our first conversation to the final fitting, I believe the experience of creating a bespoke gown should feel as meaningful as wearing it.

My designs draw inspiration from many places. The elegance of the Art Deco era, the flowing forms of Art Nouveau, vintage textiles, mythology, nature and old-world craftsmanship all find their way into my collections. These influences are woven together with luxurious silks, delicate French lace and intricate hand embellishment to create couture wedding dresses that feel both timeless and deeply personal.

Slow fashion has always been at the heart of my business. Rather than producing garments in large quantities, each piece is created with intention, care and respect for traditional craftsmanship. I believe beautifully made clothing should be treasured, worn with confidence and, whenever possible, passed on as part of a family's story.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of dressing thousands of women for weddings and life's most meaningful occasions. Every bride brings her own personality, dreams and story, and one of the greatest joys of my work is creating a gown that reflects who she truly is.

As an Australian fashion designer, I have also enjoyed sharing my knowledge with emerging designers, fashion students and the wider creative community. After almost 30 years in my own business, I remain passionate about preserving traditional couture techniques while embracing thoughtful innovation that supports the future of artisan fashion.
